Presenter: Cyprian Blamires (OCDS)
Title: Blessed Marie-Eugène: ‘The St John of the Cross of the 20th Century’
Blessed Marie-Eugène of the Child Jesus (Henri Grialou 1894-1967) is known above all to English readers for his huge synthesis of Carmelite spirituality, published in an English translation in two volumes, I want to see God and I am a daughter of the Church. But this is only the tip of the iceberg of the achievements of this truly extraordinary French Carmelite priest.

Vigil lecture for St Mary Magdalene de Pazzi
Presenter: Fr Simon Nolan O’ Carm
Title: Awakening to God’s Love: Saint Mary Magdalene de’ Pazzi on the Mystical Dimension of Every Christian Life.
Saint Mary Magdalene de’ Pazzi (1566-1607) has not always been best served by her biographers who at times have overemphasised the extraordinary spiritual occurrences in her life, documented by her community, and also such eccentric behaviour as running through the halls of her convent at night, ringing the bells, and proclaiming that God was not loved. This is only part of the story of a Carmelite woman who from a young age felt inwardly drawn by God more than ‘a magnet draws iron.’ Attracted to enter the Carmel at Florence because of the daily practice of receiving Holy Communion, Mary Magdalene found constant spiritual nourishment in the liturgical life of her community. Known among her sisters as ‘mother of charity’ on account of her kindness and practical wisdom, she was entrusted with the care of novices. Mary Magdalene’s life was marked by the Cross but her experiences of suffering helped her to guide and inspire others. Above all, she awakens us to God’s love and the need to respond in kind..

Vigil lecture on St Titus Brandsma
Presenter: Sr.Sanny Brujins, O’Carm
Title: Titus Brandsma, A Model Of Contemplative Resistance In Times Of Crisis
As people of the 21st century we are passing through a critical time on many levels. Globally we are facing a serious climate change, the effects of an economic crisis are having their toll on many, in Europe we witness the struggle to come to terms with the refugee crisis. The critical point faced not only on a national and international level but also on the level of identity and rootedness on a personal level, is in fact a decisive point where important changes for better or worse take place. So the existential question that comes to our inds and hearts is: How to live in times of risis? In this lecture Sanny Bruijns will look at professor Titus Brandsma (1881-1942) as a model a model of contemplative resistance in times of crisis.

Vigil Lecture for St Teresa of Avila and Jerome Gracian
Presenter: John McGowan, OCD
Title: “Teresa of Avila and Jerome Gratian: A Forgotten Friendship”
This talk will look at the importance of Fr Gratian in St Teresa’s life. It was probably the most her important relationship she ever had. In the seven years they knew each other he had a huge influence on her and the origins of our Reform. Shortly after her death he was expelled from the Order and for four centuries was never talked about; he just disappeared. The talk will look at why this happened and his restoration to the Order in 1999.
